Future Plans

From 1996-97 onwords, the Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council decided to Shelve its traditional path of doing only "Registration" and related work for the Pharmacists. The Council thought that it has to do something more for them and to begin with, decided to organise Refresher Courses for their benefit. This idea received a tremendous response from the Registered Pharmacists-general as also those working in Hospitals. The Council could organise Nine Courses at different Places in Maharashtra till June 1997. A detailed article on the Refresher Courses has appeared elsewhere in this souvenir. The whole-hearted support was also given by local organization of Chemists and Druggists Associations and Associations of Hospital Pharmacists to make this activity a grand success.
Encourged by the response received from Pharmacists to the Pioneering activity of Refresher Courses, the Council decided to take up, in years to come, additional activities described, in brief, in the paragraphs those follow
- Intensification of Registration Camps : The Council proposes to organise monthly camps at District Places where the Registered Pharmacists can come and get their registration/ re-entries done. The camps will be organized in such a way that all the Districts are covered in cycle of one Calendar year. Adequate publicity will be given through local newspapers with the help of Local Organizations.
- Seminars / Symposiums / Workshops : To up-date the knowledge of Professors / Teachers teaching Pharmacy subjects in various Colleges / Polytechnics Through their interactions with their colleagues, it is proposed to organise Seminars / Symposiums of such Professors /Teachers.
- Celebration of Golden Jubilee of the Pharmacy Act and the Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council: The Parliament passed the Pharmacy Act in 1948. The Bombay State Pharmacy Tribunal, which subsequent becomes Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council, was also established on 29-7-1949. Thus 1998-99 is the Golden Julbilee year of the Pharmacy Act and the State Pharmacy Council. It is Praposed to celebrate the Golden Jubilee function on a grand scale for which preparations are already a foot. As in the various activities launched by the Council it is expected that the " Golden Jubilee Celebration" of the Act and Council will receive a tremendous response from all corners of the State.
- Felicitation of Pharmacists rendering meritorious service to the Profession of Pharmacy :
The Council has decided to felicitate annually pharmacists who have rendered meritorious work in the field of Pharmacy Profession in the State of Maharashtra. Accordingly, one felicitation program was organized in Septemember 1996 at Nagpur and the second oe is being organized at Wardha in June 1997. The council has amended its rules for Selection of Pharmacists for felicitation so as to include regionwise, hospital pharmacists also. This will be effective from year 1998.
Students securing 1st and 2nd ranks in the main Diploma Examination (D. Pharm) will continue to be celebrated. On an average it is expected that Eleven Pharmacists will be felicted annually. In addition to these, minimum two students will also be felicited.
- Covering Private Hospitals in the Survey to find out if Registered Pharmacists are employed by the them : The Council has been successful in collecting useful data of Registered Pharmacists employed in Government / Semi Government Hospitals and their status - part9icular regarding their qualification and registration. The supplement this information it is proposed to conduct survey of the Private Hospitals with the help of local associations of Phamacists to find out whether qualified and Registered Pharmacists are deployed by such hospitals to handle drugs and to manage their Drugs Stores.
